To our community
A letter from the editor
On the 4th of July, more than 50,000 people poured through Midtown Atlanta for the homestretch of the AJC Peachtree Road Race; some running, some walking, some dancing. As they passed the High Museum and the Woodruff Arts Center and climbed yet another hill, they were greeted by the thunderous beat of the Clark Atlanta University Drumline.

Also among the cheering section: a small army of AJC staffers, waving pompoms and giving-out high fives. Above their heads, under The Atlanta Journal-Constitution sign on our building’s facade, hung a giant banner: The Substance & Soul of the South.
This motto sits below our masthead and embodies The AJC’s promise to customers here in Atlanta, across the state, and throughout the southeast. It’s not a catch phrase; it’s the essence of who we are.
Our reporters and editors wake up determined to inform, engage and empower our community every day. As we transform The AJC from a storied daily newspaper into a modern media company (befitting a thriving, modern metropolis) we will never lose focus on who we serve, and we’ll always be rooting for our city.
Equally important is our focus on capturing the soul of our city and the south; the tastes and flavors, the sites and sounds, and the colorful characters who make this part of the world so special.
No matter where you come across The AJC – our mobile app, our social platforms, the website, our podcasts and newsletters, our live events, and of course the newspaper -- we hope you will find something that gets you up to speed, makes you think, and puts a smile on your face.
It’s become all too common today to criticize, even demonize, the media. I hear from a lot of you who have some strong views about what we are doing well and what we can do better. I always appreciate the feedback, even when it stings. I can’t promise you that you’ll like everything you do, or that you will agree with everything you see under our masthead. But I can assure you that we’ll keep doing our best to deliver substance and soul every morning.
At the end of the day, we’re here to serve you and to do our part to make Atlanta a great place to work, live and play.
Keep Going,
Andrew Morse
